A multi-functional mask that offers refuge for dull and dehydrated skin. Prickly pear and fermented cranberry enzymes promote the skin’s natural exfoliation cycle. This process advances cellular renewal and clears out the non-productive (dead) cells for optimal barrier function.
On application, the skin is treated to a rich, cooling gelée loaded with chia seed along with a fermented yerba santa extract to infuse hydration and soothe irritation. After the mask is gently removed, the skin will feel super soft and refreshed.
The benefits of the mask continue to work over time with the addition of potent phytocompounds that will be absorbed during that masking treatment.
- This includes replenishing the core vitamin trinity found in the skin; A, C and E.
- Brightening and evening out skin tone with mulberry and kinnikinnick (uva ursi) extracts.
- Supporting the skin's recovery process from UV damage with a unique carotenoid complex that includes supercritical extracts of carrot and tomato, along with cold pressed cranberry oil.
Scent: The aroma is mildly herbal with a hint of garden vegetables and berries. No added essential oils.
Skin Types: Most, including mildly sensitive and those who may be pregnant. We don't recommend exfoliation if you have a damaged or compromised barrier.
Texture: Super thick and creamy gel with a cooling sensation on the skin.
Ritual:
Apply to cleansed skin, it can be damp or toweled dry.
Massage in a quarter size of product (2-3 pumps with the full sized bottle). An additional pump can be used for the neck and chest area if desired.
- Standard Method (more gentle): Allow the mask to sit for 8-12 minutes before rinsing off or preferably using a cool, damp cloth to press the skin and gently wipe away the enzymes while leaving the nutritive extracts behind to enhance your natural glow.
- Gommage Method (more active): Using a quarter size of gel, massage well for about 2-3 minutes. Then let sit for 5 minutes.
To remove, gently roll off the gel to enhance the “peeling” process. This can take a 2-3 minutes to fully remove. Finalize with a cool towel compress and very gently, wipe off any excess gel.
Immediately after the masking experience, the skin will feel soft and refreshed. The following day, it will feel even more refined and a bit firmer. Overtime with regular use, the complexion will look even-toned, glowing and vibrant.
Follow up with your regular skin care layers.
- For dryer or more sensitive prone skin: pair with the Ambient Moisture Liquid + Sanctuary Barrier Balm.
- For skin with adequate oil production with more attention on brightening: pair with the Solar Return Essence + First Light Brightening Oil.
Use 1-3x a week. We do not recommend exfoliation if you have a compromised or damaged barrier.
You can alternate with the Illuminating Exfoliating Serum or Overnight Resurfacing Oil, as long as collectively you don’t perform exfoliation more than 3x a week.
Botanical Profile:
Proteolytic enzymes, also known as proteases, break down proteins into smaller peptides or amino acids by hydrolyzing peptide bonds. They exfoliate the skin by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, promoting their removal and revealing fresher, smoother skin underneath. These enzymes are often derived from fruits, plants, or microorganisms and are known for their gentle yet effective exfoliating properties. Our formula uses a combination of prickly pear (nopal) flowers and fermented cranberry.
Prickly Pear (Nopal) Flowers also contain antioxidants such as flavonoids, polyphenols, and vitamin C. Additionally, it contains betalains, which have anti-inflammatory properties and help soothe irritated skin. These compounds work collectively to promote collagen production, improving skin elasticity, and reducing the appearance of fine lines. Moreover, the extract can inhibit the activity of enzymes involved in melanin synthesis, making it effective in brightening the skin and reducing hyperpigmentation.
Chia is a desert plant native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala with a rich history that has persevered even through colonial bans which tried to wipe out Indigenous cultivation of the plant. The seeds produce a unique protective mucilage that allows the seed to retain water in order to grow in semi-arid regions. When the seed is placed in water, it exudes a mucilaginous polysaccharide which are long chain carbohydrates capable of stabilizing cell wall membranes. Polysaccharides, much like hyaluronic acid, help create a hydrating film and contribute to the skin’s natural ability for repair and renewal. The Co2-extracted seed oil contains one of the highest concentrations of plant-based omega-3 linolenic acid. This promotes moisturization and skin elasticity for a vibrant complexion.
Yerba Santa, referred to as the ‘fire follower can be found in dry, sunny slopes with rocky soil that is prevalent in chaparral habitats. Their strong relationship with heat can be seen in their seeds given they lie dormant in the soil for decades before they germinate following a fire. Topically, their rich glycoproteins help cool & hydrate the skin - while acting as a catalyst for our natural Hyaluronic Acid and ceramide production, helping to protect against dehydration.
Mulberry extract contains flavonoids, such as quercetin and rutin, that possess antioxidant activity to help to neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. A potent form of anthocyanins and naturally occurring resveratrol contribute to brightening effects for a more even skin tone.
Both Mulberry and Kinnikinnick (uva ursi) are some of the richest sources of arbutin, another natural skin-brightening agent. Overall they work in harmony to diminished appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
Supercritical extracts of carrot and tomato along with cold pressed cranberry create a carotenoid complex comprised of zeaxanthin, β-carotene, lutein, and lycopene. Zeaxanthin and lutein safeguard the skin against UV-induced damage, enhance hydration, and promote collagen synthesis. β-carotene acts as a precursor to vitamin A, supporting skin cell turnover, and providing antioxidant protection. Lastly, lycopene exhibits strong antioxidant properties and enhances skin smoothness. Together, this comprehensive blend of carotenoids promotes overall skin health by combating oxidative stress, supporting collagen production, and enhancing UV protection, resulting in a radiant and glowing complexion.
